Lourdes de la Villa’s painting is based on photography, a medium that serves to document her travels, tours and experiences of the places she visits or inhabits. Each character, street or urban landscape then inspires a scene that she takes to the canvas. In her art, memory and the new readings that arise when an experience is recalled are fundamental for the subsequent pictorial treatment of the work. Thus, the artist reflects on the link between memory and visual consciousness from a phenomenological position. According to her approach, ‘making images’ is the action that allows her to both distance herself from her own experience and recover the sensations lived in that environment. Her work uses screen printing to link characteristics that she takes from the pictorial and photographic image.
