Doiz’s work starts from the pictorial to go beyond its limits, expanding in space and including the occurrence and the viewer. She constantly questions her own artistic practice, recently close to sculpture and a critical position on the continuous production/destruction of goods/materials that characterise our era. The artist uses material she comes across and collects from the street. Material that tells us about what is happening in today’s society from the environmental, social and political perspectives, including housing speculation and greed, the ongoing evictions and reforms, waste generation, and the status of the artist.
Miren Doiz (Pamplona, 1980). After attending the Pamplona School of Arts and Crafts, she graduates in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in 2003. She furthers her studies at the Escola Massana d’Art i Disseny in Barcelona. Among the awards she has received are the Pamplona Young Artists Award in 2003, the Navarra Young Artists Encounters in 2005, the DKV Estampa Award in 2015, and a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in 2014/2015. For several years, she has lived and worked in Madrid. Among her numerous group exhibitions, notable ones include Art Situacions, curated by Vicente Todolí, María de Corral, Lorena Martínez de Corral, and Ilaria Gianni at Villa Croce in Genoa, MACRO in Rome, and Matadero Madrid in 2015; 8 Spatially Extraordinary Questions, curated by Virginia Torrente at Tabacalera Madrid; 2014. Before Leaving. Ideas on Painting, curated by David Barro at MAC Unión Fenosa; A Shot at Cursed Painting!! A Proposal by Juan Ugalde in 2011 at MUICO; A Warning Shot, curated by Ángel Calvo Ulloa; and On the Tightrope, curated by Pablo Flórez at Heinrich Ehrhardt Gallery in 2009. She has held two solo exhibitions at the Moisés Pérez de Albéniz Gallery. Her work has been shown in cities such as Berlin, Mexico City, São Paulo, Bogotá, and Rome, and is included in collections such as the Coca-Cola Foundation, the Madrid Community Contemporary Art Collection, the Pamplona City Council Contemporary Art Collection, the ICO Museum Collections, and the DKV Collection.
